Blackhawk Cascades

"Blackhawk Cascades", acrylic on canvas, 12" x 12", © Nancy Roberts
A few weeks ago I painted at Blackhawk Plaza during the Alamo Danville Artists' Society's annual Primavera event as one of the featured plein air artists. This upscale mall in Danville, California has a beautifully-landscaped creek running through its central open space, splashing and gurgling its way down a series of terraced levels. The place is alive with ducks and kids playing with ducks.  It was a fun day!

For anyone who's interested, here are some shots of my painting in progress.  I finished it a few days later at home in the studio. (Sold)

  1. What a lovely painting and great write up and the mini how to lesson. Really love your style, looks like fun as I am a more detail focused painter. I have been too busy to paint....I know a little something every day! I am getting ready to set up my case at the Alameda County Fair all weekend. Collections and Hobby Division. Will share pics soon. After the fair set up I am free over the summer to get back to painting. Thanks again for participating!

  2. I really love how you added the people in the background to really hold it all together and I enjoyed the photos of your process.

    1. Thanks, Eloine! I like including people when I can, for scale and to help communicate the lively feeling of a place. People were really enjoying this pretty, park-like setting that day. Glad you like it!
