Day Three: Marsh Creek Orchard

I love the orchards in Brentwood and have painted there many times.  Here's a scene that's a composite of several different viewpoints, filtered through my memory and imagination.  This is one of the compositions I designed in my little studies on Day One of the 30 day challenge.

Day Two: Paper Star

I wasn't able to finish my orchard painting today, so I took a break to paint this little watercolor.  Used a simple complementary color scheme (yellow and violet) and enjoyed the nuances of mixing the two.

I'm participating in a "30 Paintings in 30 Days" challenge hosted by artist Leslie Saeta.  Today I knew I wanted to do a painting of my favorite orchard area in Brentwood but was having trouble choosing a composition.  I decided to do these little studies to try out some ideas and it really helped me get focused. I like all of them but my favorite is at top left (Mt. Diablo with foothills and orchards) so I started a 12" x 16" painting of that one. Will post it here when it's finished -- hopefully tomorrow!

At the farmers' market I saw two families have a chance reunion.  These girls were so delighted to see each other they did a little happiness dance!

Bobo

Bobo is a sweet little bear I've had since childhood.  For some reason his expression has always reminded me of this wonderful self-portrait by Rembrandt:

I'm just a kid at heart.  Love my toys!  I'm entering this one in the Epperson Gallery's "From the Heart" exhibit.  Will post again if it's accepted.
